We made it

Henry is a real trooper!!! He lasted 5 months with the stint in his eye, and he didn't pull it out once. That is pretty good considering he is 2 years old... He slept the whole way to Cincinnati Childrens Hospital this morning, slept through check-in, and woke up in time for nurses to check him out. I have to say he doesn't like being messed with first thing when he wakes up. He was mad!!! After they left we had about a half hour before it was time to go back to surgery, so he and I cuddled up and watched Little Einsteins. He was loving it. The anesthesiology team was amazing, they knew he was a fighter so the got the mask up and running so it would take half the time to put him under. That is always the hard part for me.... Holding him.... After he went under I was escorted out to the waiting room, but first I hit up the bathroom and had a good cry. I wasn't barely sitting down 10 minutes before they called me back to talk to the doctor. Unfortunately I ended up waiting on him for 20 minutes, because he had to take a call. After talking to him for a brief 12 seconds, I once again went to the waiting room, and waited forever for Henry to go back to recovery... I kept checking the board and it kept saying still in OR. I was getting a little worried. Thinking I already talked to the Dr. how come he is still in the OR. I found out that they actually intubated him as a precautionary measure because he had a cough. They also were kind enough to clean out some crap in either his lungs or his throat.. They also gave him an albuterol treatment in his I.V. When I finally got back to him he was out!! The nurse started taking out his IV ( at this point I almost passed out), and then his blood pressure cuff, and he slept through it all. The nurse and I chatted for about an hour, and then I said so even though I am enjoying this adult interaction, do I need to wait till he wakes up, or can I leave? So we finally left, the nurse had an orderly take me in a wheelchair holding henry so I didn't have to carry him as far. We got to the car, and he woke up for about 10 minutes then went back to sleep. During those 10 minutes I talked to him and told him no more tape, and that his tube was gone. He felt his nose and smiled. Then he slept all the way home and then for another 4 hours.. That will either be good or bad for us tonight. Tonight we gave him all the tape and told him to throw it away and say bye bye tape. He did so and then raised his hands up and said Hooray.. What can I say but that it has been a growing experience these past 5 months. It has been sleepless, emotional, and sometimes down right hard, but we made it....!!!! Hooray for Henry!!!! Now hopefully the duct will stay open...

Sounds like it was stressful, but I'm glad it all turned out ok :)
